What’s Going On In America Right Now?
Right now as I’m writing this column I’m listening to Marvin Gaye’s album “What’s Going On?” My heart is overwhelmed from what has been going on for the past 10 days. In the most recent tragedy in Ferguson, Mo., another black mother’s son is snatched away from her because of being Black. Truthfully, my heart’s been continuously overwhelmed for the past fifty years or more, from the pressure of being the mother of five Black sons in my country tis of thee the supposed sweet land of liberty and justice for all. Evidently we’re not considered as being a part of the all. I think of the many Black mothers that have experienced this pain due to the killings of their sons by white policemen but also the many mothers whose sons have been murdered by other Black mother’s sons. Our sons are an endangered species throughout the land but no one seems to want to seriously address the causative factors for this. I wonder why?
In my heart I feel that it’s a subject that many feel is too painful to deal with. Every time one of our sons are murdered by the police it’s discussed for a little while but then things go back to the way that they were and like Marvin asks “What’s Happening Brother?” Are things really getting better like the newspapers say? I don’t think so! Wars, drugs, and greed leads to the poverty that is rampant throughout the land. That’s what’s really happening. Poverty breeds crime and drugs has been the major factor for all of the violence that has been going on in our communities throughout the country. People trying to escape the pains of the hard cold realities that they’re being faced with on a daily basis. I’ll never forget in the picture The Godfather when it was said “put the drugs in the black communities.” Drugs were and still are the things that are being used to destroy our communities. Our children have been flying high in a supposedly friendly sky not realizing that they were heading for their self-destruction.
Who really seriously cared about this tragedy and about the poverty throughout our communities? Who wanted to save the babies from this horrible tragedy. Dr. King and Malcolm X cared but, many found out that one’s life could be snatched away from them if they became too successful in caring. That’s what happened to Dr. King and Malcolm X. As I think about what is happening I realize that our Heavenly Father is the only one that can set things right throughout the land. Mercy, Mercy, Mercy me things are not the way they’re supposed to be.
Last night I was looking at a magazine “Yes, He Can” which was about President Obama’s first presidential campaign. Looking at his face on that magazine cover and seeing his face earlier today on television, it became crystal clear what being the first Black President of the United States of America has done to him. WOW! It’s a quite interesting that a African and a White woman created the first Black president of the United States of America. I believe that God was trying to send a message into the world. Black and White working together bringing about a society which could be an example for the world.
America is heading towards self-destruction. The very fact that our government is militarizing police forces throughout this land is sending a very loud and clear message but it’s falling upon deaf ears.
The government knows that there is going to be a large uprising in this country due to the ills that are in existence. 1st Timothy 6:10 states “For the love of money is the root of ALL evil. WAKE UP and realize what’s really going on!
This is Lillie’s Point of View and I’m just having my say!
