Violence begets even more violence

Lillie Howard

All of the violence that we see going on throughout the world is caused by man’s inhumanity to man. The main problem is that we look at the end result of violence instead of the causative factors that breed the violence. Robbing and stealing an individual’s dreams and quality of life is a major factor in all of the violence that we see, and the love of money is the real root of all of this evil. The rich want more and more and more and it doesn’t matter to them how they get it. Find out what people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measures of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.

All of the violence portrayed in the media just adds to the problem. It’s deliberately being put before our eyes to accomplish a specific point and purpose. One must never forget Doctor Leonard Jeffries’ words when he stated, "Whoever controls the images controls your self-esteem, self-respect, and self-development. Whoever controls the history, controls the vision." Marcus Garvey says, "the thing to do is to get organized; keep separated and you will be exploited, you will be robbed, you will be killed. Get organized and you will compel the world to respect you." Haywood Busher, Sr. says, "remain separated and you will suffer; but together we are invincible."

Division is one of the major tactics that has been used to keep us in the conditions that we’re in. The game of divide and conquer has been used right here in the City of Newburgh for many years. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Newburgh is on the verge of renewal but if the poor and disadvantaged don’t get organized you won’t be a part of the future Newburgh. Take a trip down to Harlem to see exactly what I’m talking about.

As Steve Bilko has said, "sure, there are a few good Whites just as much as there are a few bad Blacks. However what we are concerned here with is group attitudes and group politics. The exception does not make a lie or the rule - it merely substantiates it."

I’m in the process of reading "They Stole It But You Must Return It", and these words affected my spirit profoundly:

"The term ‘White America’ refers to a specific group of Caucasians living in America. Not all Caucasians are in this group. ‘White America’ refers to the white Caucasian segment of America that advocates racial hatred and promotes social injustices. That part of America violates the American creed of freedom and justice for all. This group includes the known Caucasian racist and the Caucasian American who hides behind the concepts of the Caucasian racist. Both groups often bypass the American system of justice when dealing with Black Americans and other racial minorities."

However, thank God, there is another group of Caucasians in America who are genuinely good people. They possess a sensitivity, a concern and an appreciation for all mankind. Some members of this group led the way through the Underground Railroad for slaves. Some wrote and spoke out on the evils of slavery in America. They pressured the United States government and President Lincoln to abolish slavery. These are true Americans who stand for this country’s creed-liberty and justice for all.

To stop the violence that is going on in our City of Newburgh - which consists of city government violence, police violence, and all other violence - the good people of Newburgh need to come together and organize to assure that Newburgh truly becomes the All-American City that it was once claimed to be. If not, we’ll only have ourselves to blame and violence will beget violence. Heaven help us all! This is Lillie’s Point of View!
