Racism still running rampant in America

Lillie Howard
Lately we’ve been hearing and reading a lot of words from people who are not actually saying what they really mean. Those with any sense of what’s really going on, however, can read between the lines.

The word “welfare” is used to stir up peoples’ minds about Black folks, when in reality there are more Whites on welfare in this country than Blacks. When you hear the words “food stamps” most believe that it’s mainly Black folks, when in reality there are more Whites on food stamps than Blacks. When the word “crime” is used most people think of Blacks but truthfully there are more crimes being committed by Whites than Blacks. Most of the mass murders that have been committed in this country have been committed by Whites. Why isn’t the truth being told?

When is this country going to wake up and realize that we cannot continue down this road of deception? We are destroying ourself from within. Why is there such hatred towards a people whose forefathers built this country? Yes, America was built on the backs of Black people. Our forefathers were beaten and whipped to till the fields of their masters.

Recently, I was watching a short film on Aspire - sports figure Magic Johnson’s channel - and it was mind-blowing to me. It showed a Black woman and man in bed. He was rubbing her pregnant belly and asking her if the child was his or the master’s. She told him that she felt in her heart that it was his. Wow! This man had to deal with the fact that this could possibly be the master’s baby.

Shortly after the man left to go work in the field, the woman went into labor and cried out for the mid-wife to come. The baby was delivered and the mother was so happy to see that the baby’s color was dark brown. After the mid-wife left the master came to the house, looked at the baby and said, “well, I guess I won’t be able to get much money for this child, so you can keep it.” She was so happy, until the master said to her, “being that I’m not able to get the money from selling this baby, I’m selling the father instead.” Wow! Wow! Wow! This is the type of evil our forefathers had to contend with. We’re still contending with it, only now it’s done in a more subtle way.

Some people are satisfied with the way things are, but eventually it’s going to blow up. There is a rage in this country that is going to erupt in an uncontrollable manner. In the book “Growing Up Black”, Jay David says “the difficulty in dealing with relations between the races is that we tend to identify individuals with their race, thereby  avoiding dealing with them as distinct human beings. We’re all human beings, we all cry, we all get hungry, we all bleed, and we all long to be loved. So why is it so hard for this to be realized?”

When we see what’s going on with the upcoming presidential election it makes one realize that not much has changed in this country as it pertains to race relations. There has never been a president in this country that has been dealt with in such a disrespectful manner as President Obama. Why? Because he’s a man of color? Wow! Heaven help us all. Lives have been snatched away because of this hateful spirit, namely Dr. King, President Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X and so many more.

Let me end with some very important words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “We were all involved in the death of John Kennedy. We tolerated hate; we tolerated the sick stimulation of violence in all walks of life; and we tolerated the differential application of law, which said that a man’s life was sacred only if we agreed with his views. This may explain the cascading grief that flooded the country in late November. We mourned a man who had become the pride of the nation, but we grieved as well for ourselves because we knew we were sick.”

So many don’t realize how sick they really are. This is Lillie’s Point of View!
