George S. Ransom



Town of Newburgh

George S. Ransom, a truck driver with Westend Brewery and area resident since a young age, entered into rest Thursday, January 10, 2008 at home. He was 90.

The son of Peter and Mary Lyon Ransom, he was born February 21, 1917 in Monroe, NJ.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union and a city of Newburgh Water Filtration Plant employee; Black Rock Fish and Game and the National Rifle Association.

He was the widower of Helen Sparling.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula Walter and her husband Paul of Wallkill; one son, Al Ransom of Enid, OK; one brother, Peter Ransom of Murrells Inlet, SC; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, David Ransom; two brothers, William Ransom, Earl Ransom; five sisters, Anna Bell Smith, Mary Lane, Laura Bosco, Helen Macafie, Margaret Goldsmith.

A memorial service will be offered at the convenience of the family. The date and time will be published shortly.

A special thank you to Frank Ransom from Moravia, NY who came faithfully to visit dad no matter what the weather conditions were, to brighten his day.
