Nadene M. Green

HYDE PARK
Nadene M. Green, 53, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, died suddenly at home in Hyde Park, NY on January 11, 2008. She was born September 4, 1954 in Poughkeepsie, NY, the daughter of the late Gene E. Green-Falaq and Wiiliam (Willie) Oates of North Carolina. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and went on to complete two years of job corps. She was a US Army veteran and a paralegal. Nadene was a fervent reader who loved law books, Scrabble, chess, writing poetry and debating any issue on hand. She dedicated her life to fighting for the human rights of anyone she felt had a need or whom she deemed the underdog. Some of her favorite moments were making sure her family was eating the right foods, getting lots of exercise, helping Rodney Douglas with his New Day Repertory Theatre, time with Mae Parker Harris, long hours spent with her friend, Sara from Nubian Directions and moments with Marilynn A. Vetrano, Executive Director of the Dutchess County Human Rights Commission, who gave her the opportunity to do volunteer work for the commission. Nadene was known to most people to be bothersome, but anyone who really knew her would tell you her heart was always in the right place, especially for those who she truly loved. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them. She is survived by her biological children, Verree Green, Gene Green and Sheldon Green; a granddaughter, Dakirrii T. Francis; and a brother, Dazell D. Green, Sr. and his wife, Lorraine of Poughkeepsie; her cousins, whom she grew up with like siblings, Nigel Davis, Sherry Woods, Sheldon Davis, all of Charlotte, NC; stepsisters, Stacy Schoonmaker of New Windsor, NY, Wendy Fountain of Norfolk, VA; stepbrothers, Charles Schoonmaker and Gary Irving; nephews, Scott Anderton of Atlanta, GA, Dazell Green II of Charlotte, NC, Denis Green and Shamell Green of Poughkeepsie, NY; nieces, Linda Green, Sakima Green-Brown, Sharainya Green, Jennifer green, Janelle Green, Tania Green, Dazell C. Green and special niece, SherNaine Archer, all of Poughkeepsie, NY; Aunt Mary of Las Vegas, NV and a host of cousins, great nephews, great nieces and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Gene Green-Falaq, her brother, Terrance Lee Green, stepsisters, Gail Childress and Brenda Folks, Aunt Barbara Wallace, Uncle Andrew Green and her maternal grandparents, Henry L. and Florence Green. Services will be held Friday, January 18, 2008, 11:30am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
