After losing a pair to Brooklyn College on Thursday, the Mount bounced back by sweeping Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon. Junior Amanda Barrese picked up the win in game one with a score of 9-3, while senior Caitlin Maynes earned the victory in game two by a final score of 7-5.
Mount Saint Mary is now 2-0 in the Skyline with an overall record of 5-8, while Mount Saint Vincent drops to 0-2 in the conference and to 1-5 for the season.
In game one, senior Ashley Schirripa got the Mount off to a quick start after her double down the left field line scored freshman Sabrina Gordek who was on base after reaching on a wild pitch. Schirripa later scored when the Dolphins’ centerfielder made an error on a shot up the middle from sophomore Stephanie Karcher. Two innings later, senior Victoria DeMarco added to the Mount’s lead when her single to right field plated junior Ashley Peel and freshman Brianne Germain, who was pinch running for junior Chelsea Hepburn. DeMarco picked up another RBI in the sixth, putting their lead at 9-3. Barrese scattered five hits and three runs over seven innings.
DeMarco continued where she left off in game two when her second inning triple scored Hepburn to put the Mount up 1-0. In the top of 6th she drove in her fifth RBI of the day to give the Knights a 5-2 lead. Maynes kept the Dolphins at bay, ending the game with six strikeouts and a 7-5 victory.
