The Mount earns sweep of Mount Saint Vincent

Newburgh - Yielding just three hits in two games, the Mount Saint Mary College softball team swept the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference action on Sunday. The Knights (8-10 overall, 4-2) won the first game, 8-0, and the second game, 5-0.
In the opener, junior pitcher Caitlin Maynes allowed just two hits, walked one, and struck out eight to earn the victory. Only one runner reached second base.
On the other side, the Knights scored in each of the five innings to force a run-rule conclusion to the game. In the first, freshman Danielle Soto drove home senior Lacey Kehlenbeck with an RBI single. Kehlenbeck plated a pair of runs with a double in the second inning and then came around to score again on a groundout from junior Victoria DeMarco.
Sophomore Chelsea Hepburn did the damage in the fourth inning, driving home a pair with a double. In the fifth, DeMarco laced an RBI single, allowing senior Danielle Orender to score the eighth run and end the game.
Soto opened the scoring in the first inning of game two, driving home Kehlenbeck once again. Soto then scored when Hepburn crushed a two-run double to make it 3-0. Hepburn came around to score on an error, completing a four-run first. After a pair of scoreless frames, Orender forced home the fifth run for the Knights, plating sophomore Ashley Peel with a single.
In the circle, sophomore Amanda Barres allowed just one hit in seven innings. She struck out five to claim her third win of the year.
