Farmingdale - Despite leading in each game, the Mount Saint Mary College softball team lost both games to Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference double-header on Sunday. The Knights are now 5-9 overall.
In game one, MSMC got on the board first with two runs in the opening inning. Senior Lacey Kehlenbeck singled and moved to second when junior Victoria DeMarco was hit by a pitch. Following a sac bunt, sophomore Ashley Peel singled to drive home both runs.
The Knights scratched out another run in the third to lead, 3-0, but Farmingdale had an answer. The Rams strung together seven hits in the fourth inning for six runs and a three-run lead. Farmingdale added two more in the fifth to seize an 8-3 advantage.
The Mount tried to piece together a rally in the seventh. Sophomore Chelsea Hepburn tripled to left field to drive home a pair of runners and then scored herself on a Farmingdale error. But with runners at first and second, senior Danielle Orender lined out to third, allowing the Rams to take an 8-6 decision.
In game two, Hepburn provided the power again, this time launching a two-run home run in the second to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage. Farmingdale rallied again, this time with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth to capture a 4-2 victory.
Hepburn finished the day 2-for-7 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Peel wound up 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored, while freshman Danielle Soto went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Knights will head to New Paltz for a double-header on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. The games are scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. |
