Part I of II
Too poor to be labeled an "Axis of Evil," too politically unstable to be considered "Communist," and too black even for the maduro rolling Dominicans and spliff-rolling Jamaicans to identify with them. Who are they? They are blacker than many African nations. Who are they? They are simply the only nation existing directly by way of a slave-revolt. Who are they? They are Haiti.
We are forced to notice Haiti due to the bizarre timing of the recent earthquake. The damages of the quake accomplished much more by way of attention than many of us anticipated. It revealed a social-economic rubble that runs very deep into world history, it reveals a poverty so severe that it’s literally impossible to blame the citizens of this sovereign land. It reveals the remnants of a political/international excommunication that exist due to the still wounded ego’s of the white Euro/American Superpowers. It uncovers resentment towards over 8 million blacks for the actions of some 700,000, about 219 years ago.
The year was 1806. Trade between the US and Haiti was officially shut down (at least Haitian ships could not dock at US ports). The Haitians were already 15 years removed from beating Napoleon’s French Army and just 2 years removed from becoming a republic. In the US, President Thomas Jefferson-fearful of any black uprising anywhere in the world-became his own walking Fox News Network and began spreading racist lies regarding the Haitians. He then went to Congress to demand they abolish trade between the US and Haiti. Spain and France at some point did likewise. Later on during the 1820’s a Senator from South Carolina (strange-but-true); Robert V. Haynes reaffirmed the US position, "our policy with regard to Haiti is plain. We never can acknowledge her independence."
What’s the underlining message to these sanctions? Were they saying the Haitians had become too uppity? Yes and more, acknowledging it meant news would get around the slave-holding countries, and even to mostly illiterate slaves. Can’t have that.
While Haiti’s victory was inspirational to many blacks, she could not escape the stigma of oncoming poverty that would be her burden for fighting the enemy. Throughout the 1800’s some free American blacks would move to Haiti and eventually move back to the US due to the intense poverty. Some like Televangelist Pat Robertson have attached a moral misgiving (a practice of "Voodoo" and some "pact with the devil" in this case) to the victims of natural disasters if the majority just-so-happen to be black or non-white. But it seems Haiti is suffering from locality as opposed to a lack of spirituality. Who knows, maybe that earthquake was overdue. According to the Mercos Press "Haiti sits on two seismic faultlines." These lines are said to be between the North Atlantic tectonic plates and the Caribbean plate (AKA Strike-slip faults; the Enriquillo-Plaintain Garden fault is the one believed to have caused the 1/12/10 disaster). A 7.0 can be of much smaller consequence in a city with much stronger buildings than Haiti. On the other hand Haiti has what is known as deep-water oil ports and other minerals like gold and copper the US and other powerful nations consider to be in reserve; an embargo in-itself through non-disclosure to it’s black majority population and their refusal to train them.
It seems over the years the real Voodoo was the slick methods of draining Haiti’s wealth devised by American banks, this in time would maintain any lack of infrastructure, low literacy and eventually a slavery that was still ongoing until the earthquake. What Robertson fails to reveal is the instances when his own personal voodoo is manifest. A 1/14 Daily Kos report states that the 700 Club host is no stranger to being on friendly terms with black African dictators: "As is so often the case with evil people, they accuse others of things which they themselves are guilty. During the 1990’s Pat Robertson was involved in business ventures with both the late Mobutu Sese Seko, the dictator of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) for over 30 years and Charles Taylor of Liberia and Sierra Leone infamy, currently being tried for war crimes in the Hague."
It seems Robertson has a relief organization called "Operation Blessing" that’s noted for blessing everyone except the ones who need it most, the victims of massacres and disasters. He commissioned planes to deliver diamond mining equipment to Zaire according to an investigation by the Virginia Department of Consumer Affairs and testimony from 2 of his pilots. Funding for this operation came from none other than viewers like you; Pat Robertson’s all-day-suckers contributing to the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and other related BS under misleading statements. Of course similar operations were done by Robertson’s CBN in regard to diamond mining rights in Liberia with the vile Taylor’s blessing in 1999.
Evidently Robertson used his $66 million dollar Operation Blessing as a front in more instances than space will permit me to reveal, including such tragic events as Rwanda in ‘94, to Hurricane Katrina in ‘05. Profiting huge and saving few. This is not to imply his efforts didn’t rescue anyone, it’s just important to remember for the next time he starts making cracks attributing Satan to masses of blacks that are suffering.
