Marist Women’s Basketball Tops Manhattan



RIVERDALE – The Marist women’s basketball team defeated Manhattan on Sunday, 81-54. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 22-6 overall and 16-2 in the MAAC. Head coach Brian Giorgis is now just one win away from his 300th career win.

Senior Emma O’Connor posted her fourth career double-double this season with 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. O’Connor also led Marist with two steals and two blocks. Sophomore Sydney Coffey had a game-high 16 points. Senior Casey Dulin had 11 points and a team-high five assists. Senior Leanne Ockenden contributed 10 points while sophomore Madeline Blais added an additional 11 points.

Manhattan’s Monica Roeder opened up the game with a long three, which was matched by Dulin as the Red Foxes quickly took over. Marist posted an 11-1 run to lead Manhattan 26-9. Back-to-back baskets by the Jaspers pulled Manhattan within 12 at the seven minute mark. Layups by Dulin and freshman Katharine Fogarty increased the Red Fox lead to 16. The teams scored evenly to close the half, 12-1l advantage Manhattan, but Marist led 41-26 at the half.

The Red Foxes opened up the half on a 19-6 run to take a 60-33 lead. The teams shot basket-for-basket over the following 10 minutes but Marist still held a lead over the Jaspers. Nine more points by the Red Foxes and six from Manhattan would be all as Marist defeated the Jaspers 81-54.
