NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team (0-10, 0-1 Skyline) fell to The Sage Colleges (4-4, 1-0 Skyline) in their Skyline Conference opener Tuesday evening at the Kaplan Center.

The Knights opened the game with an 8-0 run over the first five minutes. Sage slowly chipped away before Chelsea Martin tied the game with a three-pointer with five minutes remaining in the half. Junior Lauren Romao responded with a trey of her own to put the Knights up 19-16. Sage scored six out of the last nine points in the half to take a 25-23 lead into the locker room.

To start the second half, Romao hit consecutive free throws to tie the game at 25. Sage then responded with a pair of free throws of their own. At 12:38 the Knights cut a four-point deficit down to two with a jumper from sophomore forward Catie Grace. After trailing 46-34 the Knights scored seven consecutive points to cut the score down to 46-41 before Sage sank a free-throw making it 47-41 and kept the momentum going with a three-pointer from Frankie Pearson. The Knights kept fighting, as they scored six consecutive points to make the score 52-47 when Grace brought the game within three points with another jumper. The teams continued to trade points before Sage finally pulled away over the final three and a half minutes with a 10-1 stretch to run away with a 12 point victory.
