BROOKLYN – Though it played a competitive 40 minutes, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team (0-9) was unable to break into the win column, dropping a 70-60 decision at St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn (8-5) in a non-conference tilt Saturday evening at Brooklyn Technical High School.
Though their last lead in the game came with 13:11 to go in the first half, the Knights were never out of it, as they were within double digits until the final seconds of the game. A 12-4 run that was capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella knotted things up at 43-43 at the 12:26 mark. Some strong shooting kept the Knights within a score, as they trailed 52-50 at the 9:33 mark. A 10-4 run in the waning minutes gave the Bears a double-digit lead for the first time in the game, and they closed out the contest with a 10-point win.
Senior forwards Rachel and Jessica Perrone each picked up a double-double in Saturday’s matchup, Rachel with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Jessica with 11 points and 14 boards. Junior forward Natalie Candarelli banked a team-high 17 points.
