Newburgh - Bouncing back from a tough Skyline Conference loss at Farmingdale State College, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team posted a 63-45 decision over visiting Baruch College. The Knights move to 16-3 with the win and the Bearcats drop to 11-9.

In the early minutes of the half, the Mount used an 8-0 run to break away from the Bearcats, capped by a jumper from senior Amanda Horvers.

Mount senior Natalie Garbie extended their lead to 12, 21-9, as she laid in a pass from junior Becky Metzer with 11:15 showing on the clock. After a 7-0 run to close out the first half, the Knights possessed a 33-16 advantage going into the locker room.

With the Mount ahead by 17 at the 13:50 mark, Baruch College senior Shamika Boyce banked in a layup to pull the Bearcats to within 15. The Knights shot 12-14 from the free thrown line in the second half to seal the win. A strong defensive effort also limited Baruch to just 30.0-percent from the field and 5.9-percent from behind the three-point arc.

Once again, senior Jen Mocanu led the Knights with 19 points, in addition to grabbing six steals. Rachel Perrone added 12 points and six boards, while Horvers contributed 14 points and six rebounds.

Baruch College freshman Iyana Abrams was the only Bearcat to reach double-digits in the scoring column, with 11 points. Fellow freshman Sheridan Taylor led the Bearcats on the glass with a game-high ten rebounds.
