Union Ends Vassar’s Streak
SCHENECTADY – The Vassar College men’s basketball team lost its first game since the season opener against Clark University in November to Union College 79-74 in Liberty League action on Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Brewers (9-2, 1-1 LL) were previously on a nine-game win streak with the school record set at 10 from the 2007-08 team. Union’s (4-6, 1-1 LL) first half lead of 38-28 proved to be the difference-maker in whether Vassar would continue the streak or not.
Five Dutchmen hit double-digit scoring and were led by Terell Winney’s 16 points. William Hython (15), Deshon Burgess (14), Kevin Weckworth (12) and Ryan Whelpley (11) were the other Union players to score double-figures.
The Brewers were led by sophomore guard Johnny Mrlik’s game-high 20 points. Junior forward Alex Snyder scored 15 points, sophomore guard Erikson Wasyl hit for 14 and junior guard Curtis Smith tallied 12 points for the Brewers.
Junior forward Luka Ladan and freshman forward Otis Osman scored eight and five points off the bench, respectively.
