Herzog’s three-pointers lead Vassar past CCNY

Vassar’s Jon Herzog scored 15 of his 17 points from beyond the three-point line.

NEW YORK, NY – Five Brewers hit double-digit scoring in their 88-77 win over the City College of New York Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Jon Herzog led the scoring effort with 17 points. Sophomore forward Alex Snyder followed with 16 points and ten rebounds for his fifth double-double.

Herzog’s only points inside the arc were a pair of free throws. Sophomore forward Luka Ladan had 15 points, junior forward Evan Carberry hit for 14 points from the bench and sophomore guard Curtis Smith added another 11.

Smith hit a pair of free throws to give Vassar the early lead. CCNY responded with a three-pointer from David Solano in the same minute for the Beavers’ only lead of the game. Herzog hit his first of five three-pointers for the final lead change of the game as the Brewers went up 5-3.

Donnelly scored off a fast break layup with less than a minute in the first half to give the Brewers their biggest lead of the day 48-23. CCNY’s Nathan Lopez hit a three to bring the score to 48-26 going into halftime.

The Beavers chipped away at the Vassar lead, managing to bring the Brewer advantage down to ten in three separate instances, but could not stop the Brewer offense.
