PRINCETON, NJ – Kristen Traub capped an illustrious career in historic fashion, becoming the first Marist College women’s track athlete to win an ECAC title on Sunday at the ECAC Championships at Princeton University. Competing for the final time in a Marist uniform, Traub came from behind in stunning fashion to capture the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in first place in a school-record time of 9:54.78, despite horrendous race conditions – cold, wind and rain.

Traub eclipsed her year-old school record of 9:56.04 and paced a field of seven runners. She clinched the victory with a fierce finishing kick, completing her final 200 meters in an eye-popping 33.78 seconds and covering the final kilometer of the race faster than the field in 3:11.78. Traub graduates as one of the most decorated runners in school history, as she has set or been part of six school records during her four years on the team.

Earlier in the meet, freshman Deborah Boerke concluded her strong freshman track season with a first-place finish in section 3 of the 400-meter hurdle trials. She had the 10thfastest time out of 28 women in the field; the top eight runners advanced to Sunday’s finals. However, she was the fastest finisher of the 11 freshmen entered in the event.

The ECAC meet concluded the collegiate season for the track team. Four Marist athletes will be participating in the USATF Junior Championships in June at Clovis, California.
