Frontera takes first place at 8th Laura Giordiano 5K

Newburgh Free Academy’s Gianna Frontera accepts her first place trophy from Superintendant Joe Smith at the 8th annual Laura Giordiano Memorial 5K Run/Walk.

The 8th Annual Laura Giordiano Memorial 5K Run/Walk was recently held on a wet, rainy day that left the course muddy. Water pooled in some areas but the rain stopped just before the race, at which time the weather became humid and muggy.

Newburgh Free Academy runner Gianna Frontera finished first overall among the women. She beat her time from last year’s race by 12 seconds, clocking in at 19:03 despite the conditions. Due to the wet track, she did not give it her, careful to avoid injuries.

The event was sponsored by Shawangunk C.F. Employee Recreation Committee to Benefit the American Breast Cancer Fund.
