New Paltz - Junior Christine Rieth and freshman Chelsea Allocco were double-event winners as the State University of New York at New Paltz women’s swimming team (1-0) downed SUNY Oneonta (1-1), 118-87, Friday afternoon at Elting Pool in the 2010-11 home opener for New Paltz.
Rieth won by more than three seconds in the 200 freestyle before uncorking a swift 56.28 in the 100 freestyle. Allocco shined in her home debut, winning by .01 in the 200 individual medley while topping the 200 breaststroke field with a time of 2:37.45.
Senior Jessica Lester lapped the competition in the 1000 freestyle, establishing a pool record in the event with her 10:53.49 performance. That swim eclipsed the former facility mark of 10:53.90 set by Melinda Pullen during the 2009-10 season.
Both Hawk relays won as well. Seniors Marissa Morris and Becky Baker, sophomore Carly Marshall and junior Allie Moorhead combined for a 4:13.92 in the 400 medley relay, while sophomore Katina Lown, senior Allison Wells, Moorhead and Rieth clocked a 1:41.99 in the 200 freestyle relay. New Paltz’s 200 freestyle relay wiped out the former pool record of 1:41.99, which the Hawk quartet of Rieth, Wells, Morris and Brittany Berrus set in 2008.
