Swimming And Diving Selects 2008-09 Captains

Sandra Bujalski

POUGHKEEPSIE - Head of aquatics Larry VanWagner has announced that Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) and Savannah Puca (Huntington, N.Y.) will be the captains of the women's team, and Mark Esolen (Archbald, Pa.), Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.) and Kevin Quinn (Neponsit, N.Y.) will lead the men's team.

Bujalski is a school record holder in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly events, and was also part of the '07 school record breaking 400 yard medley and freestyle relay teams. Bujalski finished second in both the butterfly events at this year's MAAC Championships, and she was part of the first place 800 yard freestyle relay.

Puca, a two-year captain, was second at the MAAC's in the 400 yard individual medley. She took fifth in the 200 yard IM as well.

On the men's side, Esolen is a school record holder in the 200 yard butterfly. At the MAAC's he finished second in the 200 yard butterfly and was part of the second place 200 and 400 yard medley relay teams.

Hartmann had a strong year for the Red Foxes and did especially well at the MAAC championships. He was a champion in the 1000 yard freestyle and took second in both the 500 and 1650 yard freestyle events. He was also part of the second place finishing 800 yard freestyle relay team.

Kevin Quinn, who will be a junior next year, was a sixth place finisher in the 200 yard butterfly at this year's MAAC Championships.

Both the men and the women won this year's MAAC Title in huge upsets over the favorite, Rider. It was the fourth straight title for the men and the fifth for the women, and associate head coach/diving coach Melanie Bolstad was named the men's and women's Diving Coach of the Year. She was named the Men's Diving Coach of the Meet at the ECAC Championship Meet as well.
