Vassar Earns Second at Skidmore Sprite Invite

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Vassar College women’s swimming and diving team combined for 384 points at the Skidmore College Sprint Invitational which was good enough for second place out of the six teams in attendance.

Six Brewers earned points in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Julia Cunningham, Anna Kuo, McKenzie Quinn, Julia Wieczorek, Robin Lam and Kayla Schwab tallied 47 points for Vassar by taking first (1:11.41), fourth (1:15.57), fifth (1:15.74), eighth (1:17.34), ninth (1:17.35) and 12th (1:18.90), respectively. Schwab’s time was an in-season best as was Kuo’s.

“We’re not overthinking anything we’re just getting up and racing. We are getting prepped for our races in a couple of weeks,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “It was nice to be successful in Skidmore once again and it’s all due to everyone stepping up in every race.”

Maya Pruitt won the 3 Meter diving with a 209.55. Her score for the six-dive event was 1.36 points away from a personal best. She also finished second on the short board with a score of 207.50.
Cunningham also won the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:40.84 and the 100 Yard IM with a finish of 1:03.32.

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Leah Pan, Lily Frye, Olivia Harries and Elizabeth Balter raced to a second place finish with a time of 1:47.18. They finished ahead of Skidmore’s A team by .38 of a second. Maryam Pourmaleki joined the ranks of second place finishers for the Brewers in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:03.09) as well as Milee Nelson in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:04.50) and Harries in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:27.78).

The Brewers will next shift gears towards the UNYSCSA Championships at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY on Wednesday, February 19. The championships will go until Saturday, February 22
