NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz Department of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation has announced its 2013-14 men’s swimming schedule, as announced Thursday. New Paltz has added two new meets to its schedule this season: the NYU Invitational and a dual meet against fellow Hudson Valley foe Mount Saint Mary College.
The SUNY New Paltz Hawks will kick off their season on Oct. 26, as they make their annual trek up to Schenectady, N.Y., for the Union Relays. New Paltz contests Ramapo College on Nov. 2 in its home opener, and from Nov. 8-9, the team competes down in Manhattan at the NYU Invitational. The Hawks then return to Elting Pool on Nov. 16 for a meet against SUNY Oswego. A Nov. 23 tilt against Vassar College will be the squad’s final test before the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championships, which run from Dec. 6-8 in East Meadow, N.Y.
During the team’s annual training trip in Florida, the Hawks travel to the University of Tampa for an invitational meet on Jan. 4. New Paltz challenges SUNY Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology in a tri-meet from Jan. 10-11 in Geneseo, N.Y., before visiting SUNY Cortland on Jan. 17. The Hawks entertain Mount Saint Mary on Jan. 24 in their final home meet of the season, and they face SUNY Oneonta the following day in their final dual meet of the year. On Feb. 2, New Paltz swims at the Vassar Sprint Invitational in its final tune-up before the postseason championships.
The 2014 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships run from Feb. 20-22 at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y., and the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships run from March 19-22 in Indianapolis, Ind.
New Paltz achieved a 2-5 mark in dual meets in 2012-13, and the Hawks placed sixth at the SUNYAC Championships. Sophomore Marton Keri led the Hawks, earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time and a program record in the 200 breaststroke.
