Ithaca - The SUNY New Paltz women’s swimming team (1-1) split results at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday edging SUNY Fredonia (0-2), 150-144, and falling to Ithaca College (2-0), 186-108. Sophomore Chelsea Allocco was a triple-event winner in the 200 freestyle (2:00.14), the 500 freestyle (5:24.03), and the 1000 freestyle (11:08.37) in the Hawks’ first competition of the year.
Senior Christine Rieth also had a big day as she had two individual wins and was a member of two winning relays. Rieth swept the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 24.67 and 53.89 seconds, respectively, and swam the anchor legs of the 200 medley relay (1:52.41) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.84). Juniors Yuka Suzuka, Katina Lown, and Carly Marshall joined Reith on the medley relay squad, while Lown, freshman Katherine Buyes, and junior Anna Jakubek were part of the freestyle relay.
Suzuka and Marshall added second-place finishes of their own, as Suzuka clocked a time of 1:00.68 in the 100 backstroke and Marshall registered a time of 2:17.39 in the 200 butterfly.
The Hawks will next compete at the Union Relays on Saturday, October 29th.
