Newburgh - STATE CHAMPIONS! It sure sounds good and in case you didn't know, the NFA Boys Soccer Team won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Class AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP yesterday at the National Soccer Hall of Fame Field in Oneonta, NY. The road to the "Final 4" and the two games in Oneonta were just phenomenal to say the least. On Saturday, the team beat a a very good Shenendehowa team (Section 2) that has won numerous state championships in the past. Yesterday, in the state championship game, NFA faced the defending NYS Champs, Brentwood (Section 11). Brentwood scored first but NFA never quit and never gave up. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, NFA began to show that conditioning and determination can turn things around. NFA scored on a corner kick with 16:16 to go in the game when Chris Catania headed a perfectly placed kick by Alex Bramall into the net. With about 4:00 remaining in the game Alex Bramall scored on a great pass from Wes Finch to go ahead 2-1 and the team held on and the rest is as they say "history." Congratulations to the entire team and Head Coach Matt Iorlano and his assistant, Paul Matthews.
