SARATOGA SPRINGS - The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team (0-3-1) was unable to climb out of an early 2-0 hole against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (4-1) on Friday afternoon at the Liberty League-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Challenge hosted by Skidmore College, as the Engineers held on for a 2-0 victory.

RPI scored twice in the first half. Pat Noonan put the first goal on the board at 19:26, one-touching a pass from Tyler Kessler. The Engineers took a 2-0 lead at 36:20 when Esmir Hadzic flicked a cross from Tim Terrezza to Alex Dotseth.

The RPI offense cooled down in the second half, but the Hawks were unable to answer. Sophomore forward Dondre Irving was the lone New Paltz student-athlete to put a shot on goal, as his header off a corner in the 79th minute was punched over the crossbar by RPI’s netminder, Rob Dewald.
