Vassar defeats Arcadia in first round of Fall Fest play

Sophomore Chloe Wheeler scored the game’s only goal to give Vassar the win.
MADISON, NJ - The Vassar College women’s soccer team defeated Arcadia University 1-0 in the first round of the Fall Fest at Drew College on Saturday. The game was called with 19:55 remaining in play due to the severe storms in the area.

Vassar now advances to a record of 3-0 and will face Drew University in the championship game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Now 1-1-1, Arcadia will face Rutgers-Camden at noon in the consolation game to determine third place. Drew defeated Arcadia 2-0.

Sophomore Chloe Wheeler scored the only goal of the game when she took a shot from inside of the box, slipping the ball through to the right side of the net by Arcadia goal keeper Veroica Willig in the 31st minute of play.

Vassar outshot Arcadia 7-2 in the first half while both teams only had one shot each before the game was called in the second.

Senior Ali Higgins picked up her third win for Vassar. Higgins had two saves on the day, while backup freshman goaltender Cayla Neipris had one save of her own for the Brewers during her first collegiate game.

Goaltender Willig had five saves for Arcadia in the contest.
