Poughkeepsie - After a lengthy pre-season preparation, John Jay varsity team was ready to begin their regular season schedules in the Hudson Valley High School Ice Hockey League (HVHSIHL). John Jay is the defending HVHSIHL and New York State High School Club hockey champions. This weekend John Jay could not have done better with an exciting game against cross-town rival Arlington. John Jay won the contest 9-2 before a sold-out crowd at the McCann Ice Arena in Poughkeepsie, NY.
For John Jay, the offensive firepower was led with goals by Mike Laffin (3), Peter Magaletto (2), Alex Cigna (2), Nick Carrizzo (1), and Bobby Henderson (1). Assists came in from Mike Laffin, Peter Magaletto, Cameron Smith, Ryan Thorbjornsen and Alex Yablansky.
For Arlington, Anthony Farrar and Andy DeAngelis put in a goal each with Anthony assisting on the other.
"Mark Roberts had a solid game in goal tonight" said Head Coach Chip Chicchia, after he faced 18 shots making 16 saves. Chris Griffin from Arlington faced 41 shots while stopping 32 shots. On the defense, the head coach from John Jay added, "We had a strong defense led by Nick Stollmer and Bobby Henderson."
