Bronx - The Mount Saint Mary College women’s cross country team earned its fourth team championship of the year, placing first at the York Invitational on Sunday. The Knights, who had five of the top ten finishers in the race, earned the championship with 19 points at the event held at Van Cortland Park. The Knights’ 19-point performance is the lowest score in team history.
The Mount got a second place overall finish from senior Cassandra Gucciardo who finished in 25:21. A duo of sophomores, Nicole Zazzero and Rachel Sleeter, crossed the line in third and fourth places respectively. Sophomore Tori Wresilo was the Mount’s seventh finisher (27:47), and classmate Jess Cowell followed not far behind, placing eighth (27:53) and rounding out the top ten.
The Knights will compete next Saturday at Sunken Meadow State Park in a meet hosted by St. Joseph’s College. The women’s race begins at 11:00 a.m. with the men’s race to follow.
