Fishkill - The Renegades started the twinbill off on the right foot defeating the Vermont Lake Monsters, 2-1, in the first of two sevening inning contest Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.
The Renegades pitching staff came to play giving up just one hit over seven innings. Starter Alexander Colome hurled 4 2/3 innings of one-hit, one run baseball striking out five. Reliever Bladimir Florentino was awarded the win after he left the the Lake Monsters hitless through 1 2/3 innings.
The Renegades offense took the lead in the home half of the fourth and never gave it up. Juan Jamie came into the game to start the fourth in relief of starter Trevor Holder and Renegades batters took advantage of Jamies lack of control. With two outs and a runner on first, Jamie walked a Eli Sonoqui, hit Brett Nommensen and then walked both Mark Thomas and Bennett Davis allowing the Renegades to etch two runs.
With the score 2-0, in favor of the Renegades, the Lake Monsters recorded their only offense of the night. With the bases loaded and one out the Lake Monsters’ Jay Sferra grounded out allowing Justin Bloxom to advance 90 feet and bring the score to its final, 2-1.
The Renegades started game two of the twinbill 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
