POUGHKEEPSIE - The Vassar College baseball team announced its 2015 schedule, as the Brewers look to improve on their 19-14 record in 2014. Vassar College appeared in its second consecutive Liberty League Tournament in 2014, and also returns eight All-League players to the fold in 2015.
The Brewers currently have 39 scheduled games for the 2015 season, with 20 contests coming on the Prentiss Baseball Field. Vassar College will start its season March 7-8 with the Hudson Valley Tournament, hosted by New Paltz at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY. The tournament, which will feature the host Hawks and VC, is still rounding out the final two squads.
After that, Vassar College will travel south to Central Florida again to compete in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Last season, the Brewers played six games against some top competition in Division III. Vassar College will play five or six games while in the Sunshine State. The Brewers return from Florida to open Liberty League play with the home openers, hosting Clarkson University March 21-22 for a pair of doubleheaders.
Vassar College heads out for its first conference doubleheader on the road the following weekend, heading to Saratoga Springs, NY to take on the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College March 28. The next day, Skidmore comes south to battle VC on Prentiss Field in another twinbill.
The Brewers will take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the first time in two seasons the following weekend, as both teams will host a doubleheader the weekend of April 3-4. Vassar College breaks its 12-game span of Liberty League game after taking on RPI, hosting St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn Wednesday, April 8 at 4 p.m. on Prentiss Field.
VC heads to Rochester, NY to take on the Tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology for four games April 11-12, followed by a mid-week, non-conference tussle against former standout Kristaps Aldins and his Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday, April 15. The University of Rochester comes to Prentiss Field for a pair of doubleheaders April 18-19, marking Vassar’s last conference games against a Liberty League Tournament team in 2015.
The College at Old Westbury travels to Poughkeepsie to battle the Brewers on Prentiss Field April 22 at 4 p.m., renewing the non-conference series after having the contest in 2014 cancelled due to weather. Bard College and VC will entertain each other for a doubleheader the weekend of April 25-26, with the Brewers hosting the Raptors on Saturday.
The final week of the season is next for the Brewers, as VC heads to Purchase, NY to take on Manhattanville College April 29. Vassar College hosts John Jay College Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m., before finishing the regular season with a doubleheader against City College of New York Sunday, May 3. The Liberty League Tournament in 2015 is May 7-9, hosted by the highest seed. Vassar College will play 20 conference games, but will not have to take on defending conference champion Union College or St. Lawrence University in 2015.
