Renegades Rally Again

WAPPINGERS FALLS - The Hudson Valley Renegades improved to 4-0 after a fifteen inning contest with the IronBirds on Monday night, in which the ‘Gades won 2-1. It is their 4th win in four days, and the second time in two years that the they've swept Aberdeen in a series to open the season. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the eighth, Bralin Jackson tied things up with an RBI single to score Leopoldo Correa, and send the game into extras.

Elias Torres singled down the right-field line in the bottom of the fifteenth, and stole second later in the inning. After a throwing error by Aberdeen catcher Joshua Heim, he advanced to third and later scored on a wild pitch to David Garcia.

Torres built on his three game hitting streak coming into the game, with three singles and a walk, along with scoring the game’s winning run. He was one of five Hudson Valley batters with multi-hit games. Bralin Jackson, Mac James, Leopoldo Correa, and Coty Blanchard all picked up two base hits in the contest.

The pitching continues to be exceptional for Hudson Valley, as Oscar Armenta put together 5 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. Behind him, Eli Echarry, Tyler Gauthier and Isaac Gil teamed up for 10 solid innings of relief work. They struck out 8, walked 3, and did not allow an earned run.

For the second time in the four game set, Isaac Gil came on in relief and picked up the win. He is now 2-0 overall, after pitching three innings in tonight’s contest.

The Renegades do not have a single pitcher who has surrendered more than two runs in any outing, and only gave up a combined 7 runs in the entire series.
