NEWBURGH – SUNY College at Old Westbury took both ends of a Skyline Conference double-header from Mount Saint Mary College on Sunday at Dutchess Stadium. The Panthers (18-13, 11-3 Skyline) won the games, 9-6 and 9-4, dropping the Knights to 13-15 overall (5-9 Skyline).

Following three scoreless innings in game one, the Panthers jumped out to a big lead with three runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth, and one run in the sixth. Junior Vinnie Carminati put the Knights on the board when he doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on a single from freshman Matt Cahill.

Freshman Mike Leone added an RBI single as the Knights scratched out two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 9-3. In the ninth, senior Alec Seidman laced a two-run single and graduate student Paul Cherubino followed with an RBI single as the Mount tried to piece together a rally. With runners at first and second, however, sophomore Rocco Pepe grounded into a game-ending double play.

Carminati finished the opener 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Cahill wound up 2-for-5 with an RBI.

In game two, Old Westbury took control with three runs in the third. Carminati singled home a run in the fifth, but the Panthers hung up five runs in the top of the sixth to seize a 9-2 advantage. Carminati collected his third RBI of the game with a groundout in the seventh, but the Knights were only able to come up with two runs in the inning, making the final score, 9-4.

Carminati went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while freshman James Nakashian went 1-for-1 with three runs scored. Leone added a pair of hits.
