NEW PALTZ - Following a pair of losses on Friday evening at SUNY New Paltz’s Hawk Invite, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s volleyball team got on the board Saturday with a four-set win over SUNY College at Old Westbury. The Knights (3-9 overall) wrapped up the weekend with a loss to SUNY New Paltz.
Sophomore Kayla Kurka was the star against Old Westbury, racking up a match-high 18 kills against just two errors as the Knights rallied back from losing the opening set. Junior Natalie Candarelli added 12 kills to support the effort.
On Friday, the Knights dropped a pair of straight set matches to Ithaca College and Salisbury University. Freshman Rachel Sabatini led the way with eight kills against Ithaca, while Kurka and Candarelli added seven each. Sophomore Kaitlin O’Brien totaled five kills to lead the Mount.
Against New Paltz on Saturday, junior Katie Lynch posted five kills, while Kurka and O’Brien added four apiece.
