LEXINGTON, KY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women’s volleyball team was one of 622 programs to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year, as announced Wednesday by the AVCA.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
New Paltz, which went 34-9 overall (6-2 SUNYAC) in 2012 and advanced to the New York Regional final in the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament, boasts a 3.43 team cumulative GPA through the spring 2013 semester. The Hawks are the lone State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) team to receive the 2012-13 edition of the award.
New Paltz kicks off its 2013 campaign from Aug. 30-31 at the Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University.
