WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The State University of New York at New Paltz women’s volleyball team (22-3) cruised to a 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-16) victory over non-conference Williams College (11-6) on Wednesday evening. The win marked New Paltz’s 11th straight.
New Paltz won the first two sets by matching scores of 25-18, but Williams came back to take the third stanza, 25-20. A strong push to distance itself from the Ephs midway through the fourth set allowed New Paltz to win both the set and the match.
For the evening, the Hawks hit just .133, but that number was greatly bolstered by a .406 hitting performance in the fourth game. Williams - which hit .158 for the match - was done in by 11 service errors and seven reception errors.
Offensively, the Hawks were led by junior middle hitter Liz Hauser and freshman outside hitter Becca Borquist, who notched 11 kills apiece. Junior setter Marissa King handed out 34 assists and added 10 digs, while senior outside hitter Michelle Jacobson and junior libero Carrie Hack each collected 15 digs. Hack also added four service aces to her statistical line.
For Williams, Claire Miller floored 11 kills and had 13 digs, while Emily O’Day picked up the match-high in digs with 17. Mandy Schott assumed the setting duties and dished out 32 assists, while Haley Eagon, Catherine Egan and Schott all had three total blocks.
