Freedom Of Speech Should Not Violate Civil Rights

Marc Morial
NEW YORK - The National Urban League released a statement today calling for ABC to investigate the potential use of racist remarks by its on-air talent, after ABC radio, talk-show host, Don Imus, made inflammatory remarks about African-American, NFL player, Adam Jones. "Once again, Don Imus' irresponsible and "sarcastic" comments remind us to always hold each other accountable for our words and our deeds," said Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League. "ABC needs to institute policies and procedures that ensure the civil rights of Americans are not violated in the company's effort to support freedom of speech." The National Urban League is calling on the leadership of ABC to meet with the heads of civil rights organizations and develop a strategy to ensure that racism does not make it way into the radio stations of America
