NAACP remembers victims of 9/11 attacks

The following is a statement by the NAACP:

“On this anniversary, the NAACP soberly remembers the victims of the September 11 attacks,” stated NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock. “This year alone we have seen countless senseless acts of violence across the United States and around the world. Most recently, the tragedy at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin reinforced our commitment to end prejudice, intolerance, and violence motivated by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or nationality.”

“This date signifies more than just a devastating tragedy; it has come to represent a day of unity through service in America,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “It is inspiring to see people of different races, ethnicities and economic backgrounds come together for charitable service. There is no better way to commemorate the ultimate act of hatred and division than with a collective act of compassion.”
