Air Force Airman 1st Class Michelle L. Gates has graduated from the Weather Forecaster Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.
The course is designed to train students in the fundamentals of Air Force weather forecasting operations. Forecasters are trained in weather observing and analysis, tropical weather analysis and forecasting, weather satellite imagery interpretation, Doppler weather radar operation and computer-generated graphics, interpretation of weather effects on electro-optics weapons systems, and automated weather distribution system operations. Additionally, students are trained to assist in preparing weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories that affect specific regional areas, ranges, routes, local bases, and flight operations.
Gates will be assigned to the 17th Operational Weather Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii.
She is the daughter of Anthony J. and Loretta A. Navarra of Rural Route 55, LaGrangeville, N.Y.
Her husband, Matthew, is the son of Melvin and Kathryn S. Gates of N. 19th St. E., Palmdale, Calif.
The airman graduated in 1998 from Arlington High School, LaGrange, N.Y., and received an associate degree in 2003 from Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In 2005, Gates earned a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York, Delhi.
