Marine Corps Pfc. Leone DeMartino

Marine Corps Pfc. Leone DeMartino, V, brother of Vincent DeMartino of Newburgh, NY, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC.

For 13 weeks, DeMartino stayed committed during some of the world’s most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine instilled with pride, discipline and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Training subjects included close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies.

One week prior to graduation, DeMartino endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits’ minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.

DeMartino is a 2008 graduate of Wallkill Senior High School of Wallkill, NY.

  • September 12th, 2013 I am his Grandmother who wants you all to know, that he accomplished this without the guidance of a father. His brother Vincent will follow in Leone's footsteps. Also a product of a single parent home (with his mother) no father's guidance. Their father is my son, a man that I am not proud of!! My two grandsons are a wonderful example, for young children raised in a single parent environment, to reach for the stars, you are just as equal as the next kid, maybe more, with your drive. Soar like an Eagle. A very proud grandmother....
