Thanks to the bravery of Hudson Valley Firefighters

To the Editor:

Sunday morning at 2 a.m. we were woken by the noise of a multitude of heroes. It was this Sunday that our dear neighbors lost there home to a fire. It was this Sunday that I was given the rarest opportunity to witness the bravest men in our community put their lives at risk to protect that of our small sleepy neighborhood, in Milton. I would like to thank the fire departments of LLoyd, Milton, Marlboro and New Paltz for their bravery and endurance. For this was no easy structure fire on a main street. This was a hike up a incline that would wind the best of us with out the weight of the life protecting gear each of them had on. It was not until sunrise could one see the devastation that occurred, and that could have occurred.

It was that morning my understanding of my brothers volunteer services in the Lake Carmel Fire Department become more of a hero worship.

The only disgusting realization that came about this is the constant harassment of "ambulance chasing" insurance adjusters and contractors that have barraged my home, and my surviving neighbors homes with attempts at obtaining the alternate telephone numbers of our suffering friends. The fire departments left by about 7 a.m. and the telephone calls began at 8 a.m., and the trespassers by 8:30. One when confronted face to face by me and questioned on how he obtained our information told me that "all you have to do is slip a fireman 250 bucks and they will pass you a list of neighborhood numbers and names". You my dear man are a liar, and you are a fool for handing me your information hand written on a napkin. How dare you place these heroes down to your level, as a money hungry vulture thriving on the losses of others.

Not wanting to end on an angry note, again I would like to thank our brave heroes of the Hudson Valley.
