Newburgh Free Academy needs to change its ways
The high drop out rate at Newburgh Free Academy, the low performance exhibited by many of our students and the empathy that is displayed by a certain segment of parties involved in the education of our children is alarming! For years we have watched some of those who profess to be educational advocates of children utilize their Board appointments for selfish gains. The lack of a quality education, affects us all... the students, our schools, and the Community at large!
This year we must all unite; students, parents, teachers, and the community. We have to ensure that we produce students who are able to compete globally in the marketplace. We must strive for and demand higher standards and expectations for all of our students! The curriculum ,as well as the instruction and assessments aligned with those standards must be scrutinized. We must have effective leadership, frequent monitoring of teaching and learning, also, there needs to be a focus on the professional development of our teachers. All of this, combined with a higher level of parental and community involvement, must be the goal!
To achieve this, we must change our, “business as usual” mode of operation. That is why I believe that Philip Howard, can be that agent of change! A consensus builder and a proven leader in his community, Philip can work effectively and collectively to ensure that our children are provided the best educational opportunities available. He will work toward empowering our parents and educators with the proper resources and tools to accomplish this goal!
That is why, on May 15, 2012, I will cast my ballot for Philip Howard, in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District election for School Board!
