Middletown - The Middletown Cares Coalition, in collaboration with its partners, including RECAP and the Youth Alliance Council, recently held a Back-to-School Family Fun Day for invited families to receive free backpacks and school supplies. Over 700 donated backpacks were distributed to school-age children referred by social workers in the schools or by social service agencies so the children will be prepared for school. Backpacks and school supplies were donated by the Middletown Rotary Club, North Congregational Church, Agape Church, Walmart, SUNY Orange Center for Youth Development, Crystal Run HealthCare, and Best Buy as well as by many caring Middletown residents.
The Youth Alliance Council coordinated the Family Fun Day activities in the Academy Avenue Park. Children and families participated in painting pictures, face painting, and a bounce house. Also available were coupons for free haircuts at a variety of local barber shops and ice cream supplied by Blueberry Mountain.
The Middletown Cares Coalition is a coalition of community residents and agencies striving to create community-wide changes for the development of a drug-free culture for Middletown youth.
