Students reach their reading goal

New Windsor - Students at New Windsor Elementary School recently held a celebration in honor of their accomplishment of reading 15,424 books during the course of the school year. Students and teachers came together for a celebration to commemorate their accomplishments with music, fun and games as part of the "10,000 Books Project".

According to Trish Quinci, in September students began the "10,000 Book Project" in which the classes had a goal of reading 10,000 books before the end of the school year. For the 2009-2010 school year, students not only achieved their goal, but surpassed it by reading a total of 15,424 books.

On display during the special celebration were projects created by the students such as charts and reports using the books that were read as well as other special book-themed projects.
