Port Ewen - Kenneth Haskins, new assistant principal at the Ulster BOCES Center for Alternative Education (CAE), is no stranger to the unique challenges of meeting the educational and developmental needs of teenage students. While serving as dean of students at Peekskill High School from 2007 to 2009, he was a familiar face in the hallways, in classrooms, and even in the lunchroom. This "hands-on" style of administration is something he has continued since beginning at Ulster BOCES this September.
"I like to get to know students on an individual basis," says Mr. Haskins. It’s a value that he shares with the entire staff at the CAE. "I am continually impressed with how caring and concerned the Ulster BOCES staff are about each and every student."
A resident of Hopewell Junction, Mr. Haskins also served as staff developer for technology at Peekskill High School. His experience supporting staff in the use of technology will help the Center for Alternative Education embrace new developments and offer students an enhanced technological experience. A former business teacher and work-study coordinator, Mr. Haskins has more than a decade of experience in the classroom. Mr. Haskins has coached basketball for many years and in 2008 was named New York State basketball coach of the year.
Mr. Haskins earned his bachelor’s degree in business education and his master’s degree in learning technology from Mercy College, and his master’s degree in educational leadership from the College of New Rochelle.
"I’m excited to join the close-knit community of staff and students here at the Center for Alternative Education and look forward to working with administration to bring about new opportunities for students," he says.
