Newburgh - NYS Assemblyman Frank Skartados, was recognized at Jewish Family Service of Orange County’s annual meeting for his support of a government-nonprofit partnership that has helped more than 80 medically frail and older individuals in the Newburgh area.
Through its Friendly Visitor Program, Jewish Family Service helps medically frail adults continue living in their own homes through transportation to medical appointments, home visits, grocery shopping and many other supports. By partnering with several municipalities - the Town of Newburgh, Otisville/Mt. Hope, and the Town of Montgomery - Jewish Family Service has been able to greatly expand the program.
Each of these municipalities has established its own volunteer recruitment advisory board. Support from Assemblyman Skartados has greatly assisted Newburgh’s Friends of Seniors program, which has drawn over 30 volunteers over the course of the past year.
"I am so grateful for Assemblyman Skartados’ recognition of the value of this program. He understands the importance of serving our seniors so we can keep them in their homes," Said Anita Manley, coordinator and chairperson for the Town of Montgomery Friends of Seniors Program.
