Carmel – Congressman John Hall (NY-19) and Congressman Maurice Hinchey (NY-22) announced that Orange County law enforcement agencies, including the cities of Middletown and Newburgh have received a Department of Justice grant in the amount of $78,683 to fund overtime and purchase equipment.
The funding is provided through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) which allows states and local governments to support a range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions.
“Living in safe and secure communities is something that is important to all of us,” said Rep. Hall. “This funding makes sure we are able to keep officers patrolling the street, fighting crime and serving the community with the best technology available.”
"The technology and equipment that will be provided to the dedicated local law enforcement officers in Newburgh, Middletown and throughout Orange County will help improve response times, increase police patrols and solve crimes," said Rep. Hinchey. "I was very pleased to support the legislation that is providing these federal resources in order to ensure that families and businesses in Orange County are more safe and secure."
Orange County will receive the overall $78, 683 and will distribute $30,500 to Middletown City for a Crime Scene Unit vehicle, additional police patrols for crime suppression via overtime, and a police ID card system. Newburgh City will use $13,020 to cover an estimated 270 hours of overtime. The remaining $35,163 will be used by Orange County to purchase and install automatic vehicle locators (AVL) dispatching systems in 300 patrol cars to enhance the ability to respond during emergency situations by permitting the county's 911 center to determine where the closest available officer to respond. |
