Goshen - I’m proud that so many active, reserve, and retired service men and women call Orange County home. As I’ve pointed out before, our County has long played a role in the military efforts of our great nation.
Recently, one of Orange County’s own was recognized for service to his country. It’s my privilege to congratulate our Director of Veterans’ Service, Anthony Zippo, on his induction into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes outstanding veterans from New York who have distinguished themselves in military and civilian life.
Tony is a five-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. For more than twenty years, he has been serving the needs of veterans. He is truly an advocate for Orange County veterans and has extensive knowledge of veterans’ rights and benefits. Tony has played a key role in establishing a number of important services for Orange County veterans, including the Veteran’s Cemetery, Food Pantry, and Discount Program.
The Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery offers burial sites for veterans at no charge, as well as plots for veterans’ widows, and children.
More than 100 local veterans are served by the County’s Veterans Food Pantry. If you are interested in making a donation to the food pantry or can volunteer time to deliver supplies, please reach out to Tony at 291-2464.
The Orange County Veterans Discount Program is another way we give back to those who have served. Participating Orange County stores and businesses offer discounts on products and services to veterans who show their discount card. Veterans can easily obtain the card by bringing proof of military service and residency to the County Clerk’s office in the Government Center.

Until next week, wishing you much health and happiness,
