Goshen - Whoever says business doesn’t happen in the summer hasn’t spent time in Orange County recently. It has indeed been busy for Orange County government, our economic development organizations, and area businesses over the past few months.
Just before Memorial Day, cosmetics manufacturer Kolmar Laboratories announced they would be staying in Port Jervis. Saving 400 full-time jobs resulted in a collective sigh of relief for this close-knit community. This positive outcome is a first-rate example of the good that comes when our State, County, and local business development organizations, elected officials, and business people work together for the benefit of our community.
In early July, the Orange County Business Accelerator signed its newest resident client, Array Optronix, bringing the fledgling business incubator’s occupancy rate to 94% in less than a year. Array, which relocated from Orange County, CA, is a developer of optoelectronic technology for use in X-ray/CT scanning equipment used in medical and homeland security applications. They’ll bring at least 25 high tech, high-paying jobs to the County in the first three years and project at least 100 jobs in the first five.
Speaking of jobs, the Orange County office of Employment and Training Administration (ETA) has been busy this summer helping two companies, President Container and C&S Wholesale Grocers, with their significant hiring needs as they bring new jobs to the County. President Container, a maker of cardboard boxes, has purchased the former Wakefern warehouse in the Town of Wallkill for the relocation of their production facilities which will ultimately bring more than 200 jobs to Orange County.
Our County government, along with our economic development partners, works hard every day, even in the dog days of summer to encourage business, create jobs, and maintain the outstanding quality of life that continues to make Orange County the best place in New York to live, work, and raise a family.
