Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has successfully obtained funding in the state budget for the needs of several local highway departments. The Towns of Chester, New Windsor and Monroe will receive state grants that will enable them to purchase new equipment and make other improvements to local roads.
"Increased costs for fuel, equipment and supplies have greatly impacted the budgets of our local towns’ highway departments," said Senator Larkin. "I was very pleased to be in a position to fight for this funding for our localities during budget negotiations. Each grant is key to help avoid increasing taxes for these specific needs."
The Town of Monroe Highway Department has been awarded $100,000 for infrastructure and highway pavement improvements on many major and secondary roadways throughout the Town.
The Town of New Windsor Highway Department has received $75,000 to replace its sixteen-year-old chipper which is in serious disrepair.
Senator Larkin also secured $25,000 for the Town of Chester Highway Department for the purchase of a blacktop paver which will allow the Town to place new asphalt on streets itself rather than paying for the cost of renting or contracting out the equipment and labor.
