Call For A Responsible New York

James Tedisco
Assembly Republican Leader James Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) welcomed and praised today's announcement from businessman and good
government advocate Tom Golisano regarding the formation of his new organization - "Responsible New York" - dedicated to ushering in a climate
of responsible governance for a broken, dysfunctional Albany desperately in need of real change.

"Tom Golisano has been, and continues to be, someone who puts his money where his mouth is.  His life is an American success story of all that is possible through hard work, perseverance and innovation.  By announcing his formation of Responsible New York to help achieve enactment of serious reforms in state government, he will bring some much-needed - and long overdue - change to Albany's dysfunctional ways," Tedisco said.

"Our Assembly Republican Conference welcomes this new effort on the part of Mr. Golisano.  Much of the reform agenda that will be advanced by Responsible New York closely mirrors the reform initiatives our Conference and I have long championed.  Issues like delivering property tax relief, banning unfunded mandates and backdoor borrowing, promoting fiscal responsibility, redistricting reform, ensuring Upstate gets its fair share and making state government more open, accountable and responsive to taxpayers are definitely worth fighting for," Tedisco said.

"Traveling across New York State, you hear the same thing over and over: people are hurting.  Property taxes and high gas prices are putting a crushing 'middle class squeeze' on families.  People want real change and they deserve real relief.  Accomplishing this will require shaking up Albany and saying 'enough' to business as usual," Tedisco stated.

"We need more voices, views and opinions reflected in our democracy.  New York leads the nation in having some of the highest property taxes, gas taxes, fuel costs, tolls, fees and burdensome regulations because, instead of serving the people's interests, state government serves the special interests, which has been a recipe for disaster.  Albany doesn't listen, doesn't work and doesn't get it.  We need real change, not more of the same.  Tom Golisano's new venture will put a focus on the critical issues that have gone unresolved for too long - and I applaud him for it," Tedisco said.

"Our Conference's Members and candidates offer their enthusiastic partnership in working with Mr. Golisano and Responsible New York to achieve the real change and real reform Albany needs," Tedisco concluded.
