Orange County Wins Shared Municipal Services Grant

Ed Diana

Goshen- Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana is pleased to announce that Orange County was successful in obtaining $358,000.00 under New York State’s Shared Municipal Services Incentives Program, (SMSI) for the “Mid County Study Group Shared Water Feasibility Study.”

“I want to express our appreciation to Governor Paterson and Secretary of State Cortes-Vazquez for this important funding,” Diana said. “This grant will greatly enhance Orange County’s ongoing efforts to improve services to our residents while continuing to consolidate services to save taxpayer dollars.”

Diana continued, “In order for our County to continue to respond to growth and the challenges of the future, we need an adequate and manageable water supply.  The Mid-County Study Group and the creation of regional water systems will give Orange County the ability to meet the needs of our citizens while maintaining the quality of life we have all come to enjoy.”

The Mid-County Study Group was initiated in the summer of 2006 by the Orange County Executive and the Orange County Planning Department as a means to organize a sub-region discussion or alliance on municipal infrastructure and land use needs and potential county roles to meet shared needs. The Mid-County Study Group is investigating the feasibility of an inter-municipal water supply and possible distribution of groundwater from county and municipal owned lands including the Indigot and Dwaarkill site.
